Ever since our humble beginnings in downtown Nelson in 1945 the Bowater Motor Group has been very focused on community involvement. We believe that you are only ever as successful as the support that you can give back. It is with this philosophy that we continue to be as involved as we can be in the wider Nelson / Tasman community.
This section of the website houses stories, links and content from a collective of organisations and events that we are involved with or support through sponsorship or partnerships.
The menu to the right has got comprehensive articles from those events, organisations and charities that we regularly involved with, click on the menu items to read more, or scroll down this page to keep up with events as they unfold.
If you think you have an event, organisation or group that would benefit from our community interest feel free to contact us.
Congratulations to Robyn Jackman, our first BMG Good Sort.
Our first month of BMG Good sorts has been completed and we are very pleased to announce our very first good sort!
The inaugural winner is local hockey steadfast coach and supporter Robyn Jackman.
Here is the nomination, direct from the form.
Robyn has coached various hockey teams over the years.
During the last season she coached the U18 nelson Girls for the 2nd or third season. And when the region was faced with the prospect of not sending a team for U15 girls to tournament as there was no coach, she stepped in and coached them as well. The girls teams doing very well at tournament.
Even though she works, and is a volunteer fire fighter. Robyn is committed to the community and is always ready to help out and will a smile on her face and a can do attitute. And inspiration to the girls she coaches.
Nathan Fa'avae and Godzone. An adventurer's race.
Nathan Fa'avae, Team Captain for Team Seagate (and kiwi legend), reports on the latest Adventure Race.
The Team Seagate members emerging from the surf in this years 3rd Godzone Adventure Race.
I’d sum up the 3rd Godzone race as “A classic Kiwi Adventure Race, roast lamb and spuds, no artificial ingredients” A big mountain, big landscape and a big river, very few checkpoints, go for your life. Every stage was unique and the variety of terrain the course covered was about as diverse as one could expect in a race.
After a few disappointing performances in 2013 our team was eager to start the year with a solid performance and welcome Stu Lynch into the team in a positive way.
For me personally, the Godzone crept up quickly and I had some concerns going into the race regarding my fitness. I had a kite boarding accident over Christmas which knocked out nearly all of January nursing an injury. By February I needed to train promptly and decided the Kiwi Brevet bike endurance ride would be a good launch pad to Godzone.
Voting begins at Z Bowater Motor's "Good in the Hood"
Z Bowater Motors are firm believers in helping those that help the local Motueka community, and have a great reason for you to visit them often this month. Each and every time you spend $20 or more (excluding tobacco products) you get the chance to cast your vote for your favourite local charity.
The Z Energy "Good in the Hood" promotion is on again for the entire month of March, and at the end of it, the 4 local charities will divide up the $4,000 depending solely on the percentage of votes they received during that time. So who are we all voting for this time around?
Meeting the 2014 Z Good in the Hood Charities
The Bowater Motor Group are very pleased to be able to get behind another year's Z Good in the Hood funding of local charities, as nominated by our local community.
This year the 4 charities are up for their share of $4,000, with $1,000 being left behind in the pot to be distributed during 2014 to another local charity / community project that the team here at Z Bowater Motors feels passionate about.
Last week the 4 charities were announced as follows: Plunket Motueka, Motueka Search & Rescue, Motueka St John, and Victim Support Motueka.

These charities are now in line to receive a share of the $4,000 and need all of their supporters to come in during March and vote for them!
For those reading this that dont know who or what these charities do in our community read on as we got a chance for a quick chat during the photoshoot.
