Toyota FT-1 sports car concept for Detroit revealed – first pictures
The Toyota FT-1 sports car concept has been unwrapped at the Detroit motor show.
Toyota has taken the wraps off the FT-1 sports car concept at the Detroit motor show – and these are the first pictures. We have also found some great video of the process and some sneak peaks into what will more than likely become another of Toyota's new icons of the era.
This video, released by Toyota USA gives us an insight into the design process and some glimpses of what is to come. The video is high quality so click it into full screen on 720p with the sound up and enjoy dreaming!
Already the subject of months of fevered speculation, the Toyota FT-1 is the result of the Toyota's North American Design Research branch, Calty Design Studio‘s mission to create the ultimate sports car.
The California-based team, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2014, has produced a car that embodies striking modern design as well as referencing Toyota’s sports car history, going back to the legendary 1967 2000GT. It is heavily influenced by Toyota's long sports car tradition that also recently includes vehicles such as the Celica, Supra and in our showroom right now, the awesome GT-86. If the Lexus LFA and the GT-86 process are anything to go by we can expect a vehicle under the showroom lights in a few short years looking very similar to the concept.
The new Bowater Hyundai showroom begins to be refurbished.

The Bowater Motor Group is wasting no time when it comes to the grand plan of relocating several of it's franchises into freshly refurbished showrooms.
With the move now completed for Bowater Honda from their Rutherford & Hardy Streets showroom up to their newly refurbished showroom in Achilles Ave, work has already begun on shifting Bowater Hyundai.
The next stage of the moves will see Bowater Hyundai move across the road and take up residence in a completely refurbished showroom that will better suit the needs of the rapidly growing Hyundai business, and clear the way for the current Bowater Hyundai building located on Hardy street to be demolished and replaced by a large multi franchise used car yard.
2013 a record year for Toyota: Hilux and Corolla stay on top
Press Release from Toyota New Zealand.
2013 was another record year for Toyota New Zealand, with its new car sales up 8.9 per cent on 2012.
Amid an extremely buoyant car market thanks to increasing consumer and rural spend, Toyota New Zealand sold 24,262 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in 2013 – and was by far the most popular car brand in New Zealand with five vehicles in the top 10 sellers.
Toyota New Zealand General Manager of Sales Steve Prangnell says it’s been a stand-out year.
“So again we must thank New Zealand for its continued faith in our vehicles. 26 years at number one is a fantastic endorsement of Toyota by New Zealand.
“That’s supported by Corolla maintaining it’s top selling status with 5995 sold and Hilux coming in not far behind at number two. Other Toyota vehicles in the New Zealand top ten were the RAV 4 (2728 sales), Yaris (2398 sales) and Hiace (2268 sales). Using our provisional figures, Toyota sold more of the top 10 vehicles than the four other manufacturers combined total.”
The Art is on the walls at the new showroom in Achilles Ave
The new photo-mural of an iconic Kaiteriteri summers day goes onto the wall.
The finishing touches are going onto the new Bowater Honda showroom in the Wakatu Carpark as the 82 Achilles Ave site is just a day away from the staff moving in. A big step in the setting of the atmosphere of the new showroom was the installation of a gigantic panelled photographic art piece that was created by The Big Picture and printed by our friends at The Signman.
